HPPS is an advanced type of safety instrumented system (SIS) that can prevent plants from pressurization thus it protects the other systems. HPPS acts as a barrier between a high-pressure and low-pressure section of an installation by shutting off the source of the high pressure before exceeding the designed pressure limit. It is independent and operates on a higher safety integrity level (SIL3).
